Migrate a local site

On this page we list different methods for migrating a locally developed WordPress site to Templ.

Migrate with Duplicator

Our importer normally downloads the Duplicator archive from a URL, but a local site has no public URL. Note that Dropbox, Google Drive, and similar services won't work either, since they require clicking a Download now button or similar instead of offering a direct download.

The solution is to upload the archive to your Templ site over SFTP and import it as a local file:

  1. Follow the export phase of our Duplicator guide on your local site to create your archive.zip file.
  2. Create a website in the Templ Panel if you haven't already.
  3. Upload the archive.zip to the website over SFTP and import it using the local file import (file:// path) in the Import menu.

Alternatives to Duplicator

  1. Migrate manually by uploading the WordPress files and database.
  2. Let us handle it with our free migration service. All we need is access to a zip file with the WordPress files and database, then we can take care of the rest from there.
